MEN'S SABRE GP RESULTS

O' Connell 3 up, 2 down - Seeded 59, lost to Moreno (ESP) in L96
Buxton 3 up, 3 down - seeded 64, lost to Bykov (RUS) in 96
Honeybone 3 up, 3 down. Seeded 68, lost Frossine (RUS) in L96
Hutchison 2 up, 3 down. Seeded 78, lost to Igoe (USA) in L96
Jupp 2 up, 4 down. Eliminated after poule
Rose 0 up, 5 down. Eliminated after poule
Crutchett (Anthony) 0 up, 6 down. Eliminated after poule

Disappointing for all, but a respectable senior debut for Honeybone.
Team event Sunday, with Buxton, Hutchison, O' Connell, Crutchett in the team. I think the boys have Japan in the L32.

I think getting 3 victories in the poules is pretty good, especially as it's a GP, but I understand these guys have their sights set somewhat higher.

Good luck for the team event!

Glueboy was chuffed to beat Kothny (Sydney Bronze) 5-1! But gutted not to do better in the DEs. I think both Alex and Chris will be disappointed not to make the 64 TBH

Silly question and no offence intended to Mr Crutchett, but why isn't Glueboy fencing given his apparently better form?

Because the team is selected before the individual results are known, and in any case, a good individual performance doesn't necessarily indicate a good performance in the team, and vice versa.

Looks like only 13 in the team event, with GBR seeded 13 and due to fence Russia in the L16.

They must have been fencing very well. They are both very tough teams. They may have lost but look at the scores.

The lads were fencing great, and really deserved to beat china. The ref had some interesting ideas in the last 2 fights. (as a team we reckon 6 hits over the last two fights went against us that should have been for us.) i know this sounds like a whinge and sour grapes but having done so well to get 35-27 up it was so dissapointing to see it taken away by the ref.

nope. only for the people in the 8. was available in the first match against russia. Is this due to the availability of the equipment? It seems a bit unfair that it's there for some rounds but not others.

normally there are only four pistes with it set up on. this is the four pistes they use for the L64 onward of the individual and the pistes that they run the L8 downward for the team event. haven't seen a competition with more than 4 pistes set up for replay.
