I do not normally watch the show, but I have been told that a particular member of the fencing world is being featured.

It was very amusing to see that well-known Welshman, Tom Benney, on as part of the winning South-East team. Presumably it was recorded before this year's Winton.:dizzy:

why would you ever be stupid enough to call benney welsh! You will make him cry now!

-22nd May 2003, 14:33
He was fencing for Wales in this year's Winton. I kid you not.

-22nd May 2003, 14:49
Do you even know what Tom Benney looks like. As far as i'm aware he has never fenced for Wales, in fact i'm pretty sure he collected his winners medal as part of the S.E team i think there's a mix up somewhere

-22nd May 2003, 14:57
Homer's right, he really wasn't and he's been known to do painful things to those who suggest that he would ever do such a terribe thing:rolleyes:

Mess with the Benney at your own peril.........

I think pinkelephant you might be getting confused as Benney was in the same team as Sach, who had all of his welsh kit on from the commonwealths.

But they were both definitely fencing for the south east.

How come you think Tom was fencing for wales, was he wearing a tracksuit or something!
I'm not saying you're wrong but i just can't picture him fencing in the Welsh team...

Boo Boo

Take a look at this:

So, unless Tom Benney has a split personality (fences for one team at the Winton, but gets photographed in the official team photo of another....), I think he fenced for South East.

Sorry guys - putting 2 & 2 together and making 55 as usual. I think Lazy Cat has hit the nail on the head - it was Sach's Welsh kit which confused me. That will teach me to jump to conclusions. Mea culpa..................................:upset:
