A proposal from the Conservative Conference for a new 'Junior Olympics', to include fencing as one of the 38 sports, has been announced.

It will involve qualifying at local level with finals in the Olympic stadium in Stratford. See:- http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/othersports/schoolsports/6274966/Children-to-compete-in-annual-School-Olympics-at-London-2012-stadium.html

Ever so slightly different to the UK School Games, but then weren't these first announced as an 'Olympics' in the press, as here:-

Interesting to see if anything develops from the proposal.

Nah, never happen - it would mean letting even more Jonny Foreigners into the country, probably spoil the Master Plan ..................................

Isn't there already a "junior Olympics" held in the states?

Completely different thing.

Fencing only, rather than multi-sport, for starters. It's effectively just our cadet and junior championship (although we also have another of each of those 5 months later).

So thats 2 Annual (presumably?) Championships in 6 months ??

Smacks ever so slightly of the famous phrase "World Series" , that.

A trifle over-egging the old pud.......

And did of fencers not go down to Aus for the 'Junior Olympics' not so long ago?

If there were to be a multi-sport youth World event it could have the 'youth olympics' title, but surely there is some rules by 'the real olympics' on what else can use it?

Just an extention/re-branding of the London Youth Games (as it may end up being) seems a little strange.

Of course.

I don't think any of the rest include fencing, however.

AAU runs a multi-sport "Junior Olympics" event. I know other sports than fencing run single-sport "Junior Olympic" competitions.

I assumed you meant the fencing version, given the context of this site... :)
