There will be a Refereeing course prior to the Inverclyde Open. I've posted the details in the following thread:

http://fencingforum.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=130

If you are intrested then contact the necessary people - these things sometimes get cancelled through lack of iinterest.

Got a list of the questions for this thing...

Ah well, didn't want to pass anyway!

:(

:flush:

After all the fuss I made about this I can't even go :(.

Now that's a shame.

Still I gather that it is definitely on guy's and my paperwork is being churned off the printer as we speak.

Had the questions and rulebook waiting for me when I got home last night. Only now starting to appreciate the scale of my ignorance (not something that happens to me often  ). 80% pass mark? Aye right!!

Sasori

80%!!!!

Oh h*!!

I'm used to the 40% university pass rate! I got no chance!:upset:

What's more upsetting is the fact that I'll be missing out on the drink.

Do you think they'll mind if I take a hip flask into the exam with me?

Glad I'm not going now! I can get the scoop from you guys and not make an arse of myself! :D

Thanks to 3 Card Trick for the course. I enjoyed it even though I failed my Grade 3 foil (but passed 4). A bit more preparation on my part and the rulebook and questions arriving earlier from the Scottish Fencing office would have helped. I hope there will be another one before next year's Inverclyde.

Can you skip a grade Haggis?

haggis

No. Strictly in order. 4, 3, 2, 1.

Moose
-2nd June 2003, 13:39
Ahhh backwards order then

Ah yeah. See what you mean. Grade 4 - County. Grade 3 - Regional. Grade 2 - National. Grade 1 - National (going for FIE refereeing qualification, reffing last 8 at Nationals, Welsh, Birmingham & c.)

Yes, thanks to 3 Card Trick. I got a lot out of the course, hope there's another soon...

These things should def be run more often, can never have too many refs.

Sasori
-2nd June 2003, 14:34
Not just to get more refs though, but just to let fencers see what the refs are thinking and why they're giving hits the way they do. i.e. to teach fencers THE RULES!

Moose

Lol, I always thought that was down to who gives the ref the bigger bottle of single malt :grin

You don't want to teach them the rules, Sasori. Next thing you know, the buggers'll be thinking for themselves too.;)

They might turn into epee rule jockeys :)

Mike and I, through SF west section are trying to set up a resit for those who failed the theory exam at I'clyde. It would involve a freshly set paper(s) and at a time and venue convenient to most. Intimations of interest please.
