What does everyone think about the 2012 Olympic bid by London?

Is it worth 2.4 billion?

Would it be a good thing for British sport and British Fencing?

Does it mean we can get more fencers to the Olympics it the bid is successful?

Fencing is going to be in Alexandria Palace i believe.

At it's best it will revitalise the capital's infra-structure and change the country's attitude to sport (which is currently 'sing when we're winning, but don't put your daughter on the stage Mrs Worthinton'). At it's worst it will another exercise in state in-efficiency - the Dome / Wembley writ large.

My guess is that we will get shortlisted but lose to Paris - the French sports minister a double Olympic gold medalist in sabre.

Yes - look at Atlanta and Sydney.

Yes - the greeks have eight extra places (from memory)

It's due to burn down again isn't it ?

A better idea would be to rebuild the Crystal Palace. (mainly because it's round the corner and the Ally Pally is north of river)

good idea for it to come to Nodnol.

eight years... might have a chance of qualifying for it.

at present it's only 6 fencers over all the weapons. By then of course it'll be 1/2 a competitor and a hedgehog.

Nothing wrong with hedgehogs - Maybe we'll see an improvement!

my Flat mates uncle is one of the designers for the british bid, and he has seen the designs for the custom made fencing area, near docklands

Would probably be a tiny place with room for 48 hedgehogs (will be only 8 selected per weapon by that stage...) to fence and a couple of spectators ('cos nobody wants to watch fencing either) ;)

(in a cynical mood today)

The designer is from states side, and is quite a famous one aparently (or rather his buildings are famous), <<shrug>>, can't imaging them designing it for only fencing, they tend to build them so that they can be used for other sports after the comp. can check tonight when I get flat mate
