Well the website is back (hope this message gets out and its the server is stable, don't know what happened but thanks for getting it back up again)

Fantastic start to the Europeans from team GB, I might get this slightly wrong but I believe a last 16 in women’s sabre and 3 last eights with a bronze medal in the men’s foil.

Many Many congratulations to Husayn on the bronze medal (you will always be Husayn the 3rd in my eyes :P) and ofcourse to Jamie and Alex.

So I also believe that this makes the GB foil team ranked No 1 for the team competition as well so good luck to them and all the GB squad.

Ben

Well done to Leah in the WF so far. She had a nice poule and she made the most of it with 4/5 victories to be seeded 11.

Le't's hope she can go on and take out the decent Romanian she has in L32.

Keep it up Leah!!

One really nice touch - the piste assistants are all wearing fleeces and baseball caps, colour co-ordinated to the piste they are working on! The referees can spot their designated assistants even if they wander off (which very rarely happens they are very well trained).

Has there been a black card to Bazadze (Geo) in MS? I see on the tableau he lost 'by penalty', and, to be honest, if anyone were to be black carded, it wouldn't surprise me if it was him. Some MS results: Vondee, won 1, cut, finished 43rdAiyenuro, won 2, ranked 33rdFotherby, won 2, ranked 32nd. Met Aiyenuro, in 64, Aiyenuro won 15-12, and then lost to 1st seed Berre (Ita) 15-8Miller, won 2, ranked 31st, beat Mardaleishvili (Geo) 15-13. Beat 2nd Kostenko (Rus) 15-11, then lost 15-9 to Scepi (Ita), who he also lost to in the poule.Looking at the poules there weren't any weak nations there, apart from Denmark, Turkey and (surprisingly) Romania, although at least three of their fencers were in the cadet Europeans last year, so they may have a policy of sending first year juniors. All in all decent results in MS, considering all four fencers have one year left, and Soji has two, but not brilliant.

Yes, there was. Didn't see it because I was in the other hall, but I'm told it was a no-brainer.Amy out in the last 8 15-7.

Amy fenced particularly well in L32 and L16. Big thank you to Sue Benney and the rest of the womens epee for their constant support and good advice.

Extra big thank you to Linda who is brilliantly holding the mission together despite language barriers and a degree of inflexability in some qaurters etc.

Good luck to the remaining teams, and safe journeys home.

Can someone please explain why a fencer who is knocked out in last 32 is
being upgraded to 16th if a fencer who reaches last 16 is then blackcarded.

I thought that you just delete the fencer and leave the positions as they finished.

Because that is how the rules work. I cannot comment on the rationale.

Also, this happened a while ago but was not commented on as the forum was down at the time, congratulations to the women's sabre team and in particular Sophie Williams, who beat Germany 45-44 in the 5-8, with Sophie winning the final fight 16-4! Amazing! They finished 6th in the end.

I have received texts this morning from Ian Williams. The boys sabre fenced
exceptionally well.

They beat Poland and then met Italy who were top seeds. The score at 45-37
to a team which included individual gold and bronze medallists was close.

The match against Belorussia who were fourth seeds was even closer losing on
last hit 45-44. That does not tell full story. At one stage they were 7 hits down
and came back to lead 40-39 going into last match. This was extended to 44-41
before succumbing to Belorussia who are a traditionally strong sabre nation.

I would add that the team will be strengthened later in the season as James
Honeybone was not competing at Europeans.
