Can't help but think she might have done better to talk to the membership, rather than give soundbite interviews to journalists and no-one else.

I realise her job is not a popularity contest, but some sort of communication about strategy would be useful. Maybe publishing the "clear and transparent" selection criteria promised in the last press release would be a good start?

Also, the article links to this, which seems to suggest that Jon is currently funded, which is not the case as I understand it:

I agree although I was not aware of any comments Kruse or Halstead had made before reading the link. They said they are feeling better, stronger and more hopeful than ever. I suppose we'll just have to wait and see how the championships go.

Although the decision that Ms. Newton has made has been very controversial in our fencing community, does she not make a good point in saying that if you want to be considered world class, then you have to truly be world class?

It's an older profile, there's one or two fencers that used to be funded whose WCPP profiles can still be found through a nice little google.
