OK Zagunis vs Kharlan starting, get in the live feed now.
Both very nervous, but Kharlan gets it, even though Zagunis immediately shuts down a 4 hit lead.
Zagunis makes one amazing counter-riposte, but then messes up her next few, sulks at the referee and refers two decisions against her which are upheld on video.

Russia finally beat Italy so UKR vs RUS in the final, Italy vs USA for bronze.

Meanwhile, GBR lose to AZE 45-37, not shown on video though.

Gold for Russia, 45-44

Massive calls from the president in the last few. Disallows Kharlan's hit on the replay correctly for 43-43.
Abstains once at 44-44 when there's a questionable attack from Gavrilova, maybe stopped, maybe didn't, then gives the next one to her. Kharlan has been great but just couldn't close it out at the end.

edit: and it's ANOTHER gold medal for Christian Bauer.

Slightly noob question here, but is it a feature of the wireless system that off-target lights seem to go off on the opposite side (for technical faults, anyway?)

Referees seem to be calling simultaneous actions far more often now than 2-4 years ago.

Good result for Russia, at any rate.

In Mens Team Epee at World Championships USA beat France 44-37 in the final to win. This is the first time in 9 years that France has lost the world title (including 2004 & 2008 Olympic Games). They went to pieces in the middle 3 matches..
