Had an idea at training the other day.

Instead of all the hassle of putting on a jacket and a sabre lame why can't they be combined into one thingy to wear.

could it with foil too.

like to know anyone's thoughts on this before trying to build a prototype.

sounds like a good idea but at times (mainly at sabre) i do like that extra layer. may not seem much at the time but those hard hits ouch.

and I would have thought that the protective jacket lasts much longer than the lame.

Wouldn't want to train at steam sabre in a lame, reducing the amount of time it can be used "for real".

Plus it would mean I'd need a second jacket anyway for when I fence foil and epee

Nice idea though.

Why can't we have more imaginative post rewards? You get to 15 posts, you get to use the robot of Futurama who's name I have forgotten. You get to 200, and suddenly you find you are a forum guru, and you are allowed to use Homer. And then there is nothing else...

Allstar came out with lame jacket built into the standard jacket about 20 years ago, however lame tends to age somewhat quicker than the main jackets so although it was O.K. for top fencers who were given new kit once a year, it didn't work for all the other fencers who wanted kit to last some what longer. Barry - ah , ok thanks.

With further thinking about it yeah, I do see problems with it.

Oh well, back to having two uncomfortable jackets instead of one.

Why

gbm
-24th May 2004, 21:43
Would wear out too quickly. Probably. I don't know, I was just pretending to be on-topic!

Just wondering whether the sweat wicking lining on the LP sydney jacket does anything to shorten the life of lames (esp sabre) because logically speaking if you move the sweat towards the surface, and therefore lame it is more likely to soak through the lining and thus corrode the lame.
(three days on the forum and my status is already member, not bad, even if it is a little sad)

Rdb811
-6th June 2004, 12:24
I've wondered about that as I wear wicking tee shirts - if eveerything wicks, does the mositure get to the surface - in any event most of the lame has a non waterproof lining.

You could always wind up gbm by pointing out you have a higher posts per day figure than he does.

They already do.

Only problem with this is that you would require a seperate jacket for every weapon, and given that lames are cheaper than jackets...
