Starting now:
http://www.fencingworldwide.com/en/competition/2988-15/direct/1

GBR have Chile to make the L16, then Germany for the L8 if they should win that.

WF is the only other event, no GBR team entered.

Also the score feed is rubbish but it looks like GBR are up by 1 after 4 bouts.

All over, lost 35-45. Close in the first 6 but they just pulled away after that. That's still a strong performance considering all 3 of the Germans are in the top 20 world rankings and we had only 1 in the top 100.

Fingers crossed for the 9-16 tableau.

GBR have Spain for the 9-12 at 6pm UK time.

Have to say that Alex's omission from the team event is very hard to understand. He's significantly higher in both UK and world rankings.
I can't find a selection policy doc for this competition, but I assume it must have been full discretion for him to have been left out.

Purely speculative question - did he quit (and therefore turn down selection for this) after it became clear that he wasn't going to the Olympics?

What was the GB final placing?

What was the GB final placing?

Gbr lost to Spain 26-45 then beat Japan and Argentina to finish 13th.

My understanding is that Alex Crutchett was not selected for World Team Championships and then quit.

Honeybone's selection for Olympic Qualifiers was clearcut and would not have been controversial.

I was under the impression that he had/was planning to retire at the end of the season anyway (once it became clear Olympics was not happening).

However, if thats not the case and Alex was simply overlooked for selection to this team event, then it's just another case of ridiculous discretionary selection by BF. Hardly even surprising anymore.
