Any colleges running a freshers week who need posters, information, fencing facts sheets, get in touch with Joan Paul at Leon Paul . Barry

Would the posters be advertising Leon Paul?

I'll tell our fresher's rep about it as that time seems to be approaching very fast!

strawberry
-23rd September 2004, 09:37
I'm not single! But I suspect the other members of the club will be doing a bit of both.

And why did the word mingle automatically make you think of fondle?

I was surprised but glad to get a pile of postery things from LP in the club mailbox today (saved me asking for some!). Dunno who requested them, or if SF/BFA/BUSA gave out details, or if you guys sent them to every uni in the UK, but they will come in handy! Some of 'em are obviously a bit old.... "Contact the A.F.A for more fencing info!" - but who cares? everyone likes glossy pics of folk fighting.

I do note, however, that the accompanying letter said that LP sponsor "BUSA, the BUSA championships, University Novices competitions at foil and epee, and the International Fencing Open Comp at University College". What, who, where, why, when, how are these "university novices" competitions? I have never heard of them before....

Thanks again for the posters and bumf!

As a soon to be fresher I am amazingly excited and have convinced anyone going to Durham that they should start fencing.

Also, not all freshers get drunk......not that I'm one of them

University is fun:)

Is it just our fencing club that has a worrying amount of non-drinkers? It appears to make organising social events difficult:tongue:

Many fencing clubs have non drinkers. Never posed a problem for a club I have been at.

I'm trying to think of a member of our club who doesn't drink... Nope, can't think of any. Maybe one of the freshers won't but then again...

Tarmac
-28th September 2004, 11:03
can i come over to the uni club one night?

strawberry
-29th September 2004, 11:12
Err...can't say our club has many non-drinkers at the moment. Last year most of the non-drinkers were drinking as much as anyone else by the end of the year.
Anyway, the freshers fair went really well and the foam sabres lured them in. :) (is it me or does that smilie look evil?)

I remember one university fencing club member who would always confuse bar staff by asking for milk! :drink:

Tarmac
-29th September 2004, 11:32
tehy woould in turn confuse the fencer by bringing out UHT single cartons?

ceprab
-30th September 2004, 14:01
We just never let the presence of non-drinkers deter us from going to pubs and drinking. Most of them succumb eventually.

In my day student bars had no milk of any kind, even milkmaid, as they would not dream of serving tea/coffee.

Possibly milk of magnesia.

ceprab
-3rd October 2004, 12:00
I used to go to the bar for coffee. They looked confused for months at the order of 'a cafetiere of coffee, one mug'. Then they started to prepare it as soon as they saw me coming. Never found the need to investigate milk.

Our first Fencing pub crawl dragged out about forty people, all very drunk noisy and such a good time had by all, (even if I did have a 9 o' clock dissection the next day). The second had one of the freshers spending the night in the cells  :drink:  :drink: :dizzy: :drinkbott :drinkbott :police: :oops

You're admitting to underage drinking but you don't want to get caught out on TRADEMARK violation?!?

Nein! While I admit what we do to beer is a travesty, we would never go that far!

The concept is as follows:
Vodka is refined by passing it through charcoal filters (which is simply carbon). Brita filters are carbon filters. ERGO, bad vodka can be made better by passing it through such a filter.

Trials on Rubinof have determined that 6 such filtrations make it taste like Grey Goose (if those brand names mean anything to you, R. is $8/litre, while GG is $25-30/litre)
