he has to fence the winner of an american dude, and a belgian dude, if i'm correct wang (last32 rnd) was the unstopable chinese fencer from the 2004 junior world championships? n e way i belive he can get further than the 8! how do i put money on him?

his next fight is at 1pm. i think that eurosport have decided that they feel no need to show fencing on tv tonight.

Yes, Haibin Wang has been round for a few years... 3rd at the 1997 Senior Worlds (amongst other things).

That is such a shame. :upset:

Still, an EXCELLENT result and so young - am sure that he will be a strong contender for Gold at the next Olympics :)

From today's Times:

Kruse control

Fencing: Richard Kruse put up Britain’s best performance in the Olympic men’s foil for 40 years and served notice of his medal intentions for Beijing in 2008 by reaching the quarter-finals yesterday. Kruse, 21, then lost 15-8 to Andrea Cassara, the world No 1 from Italy, and was ranked No 8 at the end of the event. He gained revenge for a World Cup defeat in Cuba this year by beating Wang Haibin, of China, 15-11 and edged Dan Kellner, of the United States, 15-14 in the third round. It was the best finish for a British fencer in an individual event at the Olympics since Fiona McIntosh’s eighth place in the women’s foil in Barcelona 12 years ago.
