Alright my Scottish Student Chums!
The entry forms for the Scottish Student Individuals are now complete and will be dispatched to your lovely team captains some day soon!

After the various arguments last year - we are getting all the entries to go through the club captains... so he can rank you against each other - and the first round poules have some kindof seeding.

We are organising a night of fun and games on the Saturday night, and have a venue booked for a fabulous pub quiz... with big money prizes. As if that wasn't enough - there shall be drinks promos on for us all evening... Please encourage your club to come - theres no point Piston Broke getting all dressed up for nothing.

D'Artignan

Thought Piston liked getting dressed up?

The plans for that night sound good though, i'll be there possibly with bells on!

Oh well, merry christmas and a happy new year!!

Hopefully I, and a decent QMUC contingent, will be there. What's the location? We got our Scottish Fencing calendar-type-thing, but I left it in my Hall of Residence *is a muppet*

We have now created a rather fine website for the Student Individuals. You can find it at http://www.geocities.com/dundee_fencing/individual

I know its good... but please, no offers for us to build your personal sites.

MakeTradeFair

Don't worry guys - not all bad news. I just added the entry form on the site. Remeber that you should enter through your team captains - so they can rank you upon one another. If your captain is really inept however... you can just enter yourself.

Piston Broke
-20th December 2005, 17:21
Any chance you can enter me MTF? I'm sure you would give me a adequate seeding ;) Not that i need it :moon:

MakeTradeFair

Consider it done Piston, as you can see by the new "entries" feature on the website. At the moment - your favourite to win... so it seems... ;)

D'Artignan

Could you enter me as well? As long as I don't have to go anywhere near the DT on the Sunday in return. :dizzy:

The Tooth Fairy
-20th December 2005, 20:18
Hi D'art,

We can accept you helping at DT on the Sunday in return for actually making you a member of the university club - allowing you to be eligible to enter in the first place!

The Tooth Fairy

D'Artignan
-20th December 2005, 20:24
Being a student and a member of BF is enough for me to be eligible though, Miss TF. Nice try, though.

Besides, I don't do Sunday mornings, as you would know if you and MTF had been at Inverclyde;)

The Tooth Fairy
-20th December 2005, 20:33
Darn, I was banking on the fact that you would be far to lazy to read the SASF constitution.

However, you know that as amazing as MTF is - he couldn't possibly run the competition without your help! If your lucky, we'll help you out by crackin' open one of those bottles of ref's wine to get you through the day...

I am, it's just that I managed to make the final twice when I was at college.

However, you know that as amazing as MTF is - he couldn't possibly run the competition without your help! I'm sure you guys could manage.

If your lucky, we'll help you out by crackin' open one of those bottles of ref's wine to get you through the day... so now you want a pissed up DT? I'll think about it. Maybe

Threadbump time. How's the entry list looking at the moment?
Healthy or anorexic?

MakeTradeFair
-27th December 2005, 17:46
have a look for yourself - should be on the site.

Its not quite the olympics yet - if thats what you mean.

D'Artignan
-27th December 2005, 23:25
sorry MTF, but my comp isn't healthy enough to read it. I'll go check on a council comp in a couple of days and let you know if it works...

There's a pub quiz! We have to go :D

What's the standard like? Is it assumed that newbies go to the beginners, and non-newbies go to this?
If so, I'd probably get slaughtered if I went :(

How about some karyoke on the saturday night?

D'Artignan
-4th January 2006, 22:47
I'll be up for that, but I don't think too many people would want to hear my dulcit tones...

Piston Broke
-5th January 2006, 15:22
What about kareoke fencing?

Piston Broke
-5th January 2006, 15:24
Failing that we could form a boy band for kareoke. Maybe called something witty like D'Artignan and the arm judges? With D'Artignan on vocals, MTF on guitar and my good self the fat talented song writer.

Pointless
-5th January 2006, 18:46
How on earth would karaoke fencing work? :D

D'Artignan
-5th January 2006, 23:11
Instead of screaming when a hit occurs, the ref (before the action starts) decides what song the fencers sing. when the lights come up, best singer gets the point. Simple really, and a lot clearer than most proper decisions...

Pointless
-6th January 2006, 10:46
I think in epee, all the songs chosen would have to be one hit wonders ;)

It must be a deceptively big sofa D'Artignan, as I have also claimed a place on it. Saying that if there are any sexy ladies(unlikely considering competition is in Dundee and most girls up there look like they have fallen out the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down) offering Mr Piston Broke a place in their bed?

Leon Paul have just very generously donated a fine selection of fencing bags for the mega raffle. Tickets will be on sale throughout the day... and drawn on the Saturday night in Braes (our sponsor pub!) Braes have kindly given us free food for 70 people... so bring all you friends!

After some light entertainment and quality banter at Braes... I think the plan will be to head up to the Union... where a night of Piston and D'arts disco fever moves can be enjoyed by all.

Lock up your daughters - the Pistons in town. (Tooth Fairy - better keep that sister of your safe indoors too...)

Entries that were recieved by the closing date are attatched.

Pretty disappointing as we still have a load of admin stuff with the sports centre (and sponsor pub!) to sort out - and we still don't really have a clue how many people will be going. Good job we will be charging the late entry fee to avoid this happening again.

Well guys, just back from this, and was totally impressed with the organisation (as well as an almost complete lack of giving a toss) from MTF and The Tooth Fairy.

Only got some small gripes, though.

1) When I'm fencing, everyone is supposed to let me win

2) One Uni, who shall remain nameless *cough*Edinburgh*cough* scoffing ALL the buffet. Then buggering off home.

3) In the Union, where the hell did everyone disappear to when I went to the toilet? There were about 30 people standing outside the mis-named Yum-Yum when I went, and a minute later every single one of them had gone.

Though, on the plus side, I did get told I had nice hair.....

Oh yeah, and Scotland kicked some English ass at Murrayfield apparently

Oh yeah, and before I forget, next time, when I'm sitting on my backside doing nothing, it's because I want to, not because I'm waiting for someone to beg me to referee, especially sabre, or epee. Or foil come to think of it.

And I hope I didn't kill anyone with myself and Scotty B's rubbish toasties...

Thanks to everyone who turned up this weekend... hope you enjoyed yourselves. Thanks also for the very kind words that flooded TTF and I throughout the weekend.

AND... A SPECIAL THANK-YOU goes out to all those who joined in at Braes with the Fencing Pub Quiz... especially the "Andy Clarke & Scotty B Appreciation Society." It was a wicked night... and with anyluck... something that can be repeated next year.

Thanks to Scotty B for being the best quizmaster on Earth.

I will post the results up somewhere tomorrow... and try and get them on the British Fencing Website (anyone know how to do this?)

So Nessy... Did you and your bird hit it off back at the hotel on Sat night?! ;) :moon: !

Erm...

Was a great weekend though, even though I fenced sooo badly. Got myself a half decent seeding on the Saturday (23rd) and then through it away to the 42nd seed! Doh!

Oh - and a special thanks goes out to the girl with the cookies who fed and entertained us while showing us the way to Braes!

You had a good excuse on Sunday though Nessy, looking slightly hungover in the second round of poules weren't you?

Hmmm... why is noone else getting spoke about on this thread... Surely I wasn't the only one drunk on Saturday night?

D'Artignan
-27th February 2006, 13:36
You're the only one getting spoken about because no-one can remember much else about the weekend. Well, nothing which can be discussed on a family forum:eek:

D'Artignan

There are a couple of stories we can discuss here. A certain Mr Carter somehow managing to blag his way into a ceilidh in the Hilton, instead of going to the Union. Then forgetting to get some breakfast after paying for it.

And someone who should know better trying to jump the central reservation on the dual carriageway after leaving the Union....

3 cheers for, erm, me for doing the quiz almost single-handedly while the rest of my team got blootered, forcing me to play catch up during the Ker-plunk face-off. Quite successful all round, then:grin:

EDIT: Does anyone else post here except me?

D'Artignan

Piston Broke

D'Artignan
-27th February 2006, 20:19
Erm, yes you did do it, and although you didn't force her, she didn't have a choice, and wasn't exactly chuffed about it.

EDIT :-

I did say you wouldn't come out of this in a good light, though I had better say that it's not nearly as bad as I made out
