Seconded. Bucko is an understated fencer who is absolutely spectacular when on form (and there's not many times when he's not).

I still want my t-shirt printing though (RYAN 5 - BUXTON 3)*

* Yes it was foil, yes it was BUSA individuals pools - but I don't care!

This thread is surprisingly quiet...

Ok - does anyone know what the television coverage is?

Unfortunately, I suspect it will either be non-existant, or at some random time on Eurosport 456 or summat equally rubbish.

Hmm, a quick check of Eurosport doesn't mention fencing in the British, French, German or Italian sites......

PS, who'd have thought sumo was so popular in Italy?:o:

This thread is surprisingly quiet...

To be honest, I lost of bit of interest when no WF were selected... takes quite a bit of the interest out fo it for me.

Also, with the Commonwealth coming up, that is a lot closer and a lot more real :)

Plus I will be away on holiday when the World Championships are on... which is a shame, since I like to follow the real-time updates...

Still, I wish all of the GB fencers 200% luck in realising the hard work that they have put in and their talent into great results :). We have some super fencers going :)

Am sure that I will keep an eye on the results whilst I am away (if I can tear myself away from the pool/beach... ;) ). :)

British Eurosport (Sky digital) is unlikely to show it.

But Eurosport (analog) might. Best bet is still the internet WCSN.com etc (although you will have to jump through a few hoops to get them to sell it to you).

Thought it starts on the 29th? Or are you going early without me? :upset:

Ooops, ok, just a little confused - thought it started later than it does... Since we don't go away until the 4th, will get to follow all of the individual competitions before we go :)

Good luck all :)

What does this mean?

Does anyone know where the internet feeds are?

Why isn't this in the World Championships section?

I think she was suggesting that a forum member present could provide updates on the results.

The Torino 2006 website has a results page, which can be found at the link below (if it works)

http://www.escrime-torino2006.com/eng/risultati_gare.htm

There is also quite a lot of info about it on the Italian Federation website for those who read Italian ;)

this page
http://www.federscherma.it/news.asp?i=39346&s=7
has an article about how much press coverage it is getting (including reputable proper newspapers like La Stampa).

More that Cardiac will get a couple of hours prime time television a night on the main channel of the Championships, to watch after any daytime, on site spectating they may have been doing.

Without any James Chambers.

And she gets to go to Italy.

Can we have a jealous smiley, or have I missed that one?

you get the idea...

Key words: scherma (fencing), fioretto (foil), spada (epee), sciabola (sabre), individuale (individual), squadre (team).

Raisport did a broadband feed for the olympics, but it's not at the old address anymore. Will continue searching. Happily I'm on holiday in Sardinia for the first few days... :thumbs_up

It's this that I am looking for. I still have the Italian Olympic fee video - it's very good quality. And despite my lack of Italian language skills the commentary is quite entertaining.

I have just read on the Italian federation web site that rai are completing the tv agreements at this moment and the tv schedule will soon be disclosed. I thought that it was strange that we hadn't heard anything so far, as we do get a lot of scherma on the box ( well more than GB!) I'll update as soon as I see it.

If anyone is interested in how much other countries give money wise to fencers that win medals, this is what the fis told a journalist at the press conference when asked how much the Italian fencers will receive in the event of winning medals.
gold -41,300
silver - 31,000
bronze - 20,000
from 5th to 8th 7,800

Also stated on the fis website, the event on 1st October the 1st finals is completely sold out and are asking people not to go there if without tickets, people with complimentary tickets should try other dates.

Ouch.....
One hell of an incentive to win.......

rory
-29th September 2006, 13:11
That's a reasonable incentive.
So's the Hungarian scheme where Olympic medal winners get a lifetime pension from the government.

These aren't extravagant, impressive schemes - they're sensible measures that the UK *ought* to implement if we want athletic success.

Red
-29th September 2006, 13:28
Maybe I'm too British to contemplate getting paid for sporting success.
