It was always planned to be at the Royal Masonic School in Chorleywood.
It was held there last year too, but 2005 I seem to recall was in a school at Maidenhead.

Absolutely right. It was held at Furze Platt School, Maidenhead for several years. My two fencing offspring competed there, until they changed to epee. They have even ref'ed there as well. However it has since moved to the Royal Masonic, Maindenhead, which is a lovely sports centre attached to the school, and has hosted several A grades, before these were lost to Britain.

The Royal Masonic School is in Rickmansworth, not Eton.

Eton is very small - a village mostly owned by the College.

**probably, sorry about that, but why call it Eton when it's not actually in Eton? Probably because it's more well known!!

Probably for historical reasons!!

You will also find that a lot of people who are part of Salle Eton ( which does meet in the school Eton) are involved in the organisation of this event.

The village of Eton might be small but the school itself has a dedicated fencing salle which is quite widely used both by people at the school and outside clubs.

This does make a lot of sense. The organisers of the Sherwood foil don't live in 'Sherwood', but the club is called 'Sherwood Cadets' (which in itself is a bit weird because it is in Radcliffe), and the competition gets it's main name after the fencing club

For the same reason that the event held in Bracknell is called the Slough Open and the one in Kettering is called the Leicester Open. They have moved since they were first started but keot the name for historical reason.

I think the Eton LP was one of the first, if not the first LP competition.
The competition has always been well run, with high numbers of fencers
attending. This year so far the entrys are:-
U9 Boys 28 and Girls 11
U11 Boys 32 and girls 20
U13 Boys 57 and Girls 34
U15 Boys 37 and Girls 18

OVER 230 FENCERS good luck to the organisers.

Husy,
Been at the competition today and mentioned your dilema to the organiser. She assures me the call was made at the first oppurtunity, which happened to be 11:30pm and not 1am. The issue taken up with your coach, was the fact that you were entered in the wrong age group and therefore the wrong day. As it had come in as a late entry, they informed your coach as soon as they found the discrepency.
The system of age grouping is clearly laid out in the LPJS handbook and if you had been entered in time then you could have fenced in your own age group on the correct day without any problem. It may be an issue you need to take up with your coach (who I believe did the entry) rather than the organiser.

Hope this helps.

Thanks to all who made Eton such a lovely event. From Mrs Segal making excellent Bacon sandwiches on arrival, to Mr Pradhan who did a great job in DT. But also to all the others whose names i do not know and whose efforts made it such a pleasant event to attend as a parent and also to referee. The results werent entirely displeasing either... I don't totally agree with you there Trebis3.

The results posted on the LPJS site for this years LPJS Sherwood U11 Girls Foil is wrong.

On their site they have a total of 7 fencers, I know for a fact that there were only 6 on the day for that particular age group. They also have 2 first places and 2 fourth places!! and once again I know for a fact that there was only 1 first place and no "fourth" place as such (there were 2 joint third).

The results posted by "Foiling Around" on the LPJS section of this Forum on the 11/02/07 are the correct results.

I emailed lpjs@leonpaul.com with my observations on 12/03/07, but nobody has got back to me and the results on their site have not been ammended.

If you saw the mistakes last time, then the mistake about Sherwood is nothing. On the LP website last year, it said i got one point from Eton and i didn't even go to Eton, i also think that it's a bit strange that they would only give me one point when it is a bit obvious that i probably would have got more than one point!!

The Great Four.
-23rd March 2007, 23:02
They messed up quite badly at U15 boys Sherwood foil, with the winner, third and others not included. We sent them a message about a week ago with a read recipit, and have yet had no response. I was quite annoyed to go on the rankings and find out that after two events, I had not scored one single point, as the Eton results haven't been put up yet (as of yesterday), despite a third and a sixth place. Anyone else get such problems?

I have rechecked the files which I sent to LP for the Sherwood Foil and the results I sent were correct. Three fencers did not provide information to provide their LPJS id number, but that does not explain the missing fencers.

I know that this system is meant to automatically update the rankings, but something seems to have gone wrong.

Francois,C de R
-24th March 2007, 16:00
On the U15 foil girls overall results page, there appear to be boys as well as girls results recorded but on the U15 boys overall results page there appear to be only boys names.

JJj
-24th March 2007, 18:42
It is the Ashton LPJS reults that seem to have been entered incorrectly. The U15 boys and girls have been entered on the same page and then unfortunately most of the boys results from Ashton have not been added to the overall rankings. Hopefully this will be corrected sooner rather than later.

Foilling Around
-25th March 2007, 12:17
It is not just missing results and wrong genders, the actual points are wrong. For example Connor Sharman has been given 17 points for 6th place at Sherwood U15 Boys. 6th place should be 19 points.

The whole set of 2007 points needs to be started again.

Trebis3
-30th March 2007, 19:19
hehehe, sorry about that guys.

How can they get anything that wrong anyway? Don't they ever check it?

ChiaraMcD
-17th April 2007, 17:03
I'm very superstitious at the Eton competitions - the year before last i forgot half my kit and equipment, last year we got the wrong check in time and i was an hour late and this year i lost spectacularly to someone i had beaten spectacularly the previous weekend. At least i came third which is OK...
