    Hi there
I was wondering if there was a left handed leon paul sabre glove handed in after the Gateshead junior event. Son has only admitted loosing his today and Gateshead was his last comp.

    thanks

    Hi Barry,

Tough question. I think there's certainly a market for a new Epee competition in the North so long as it doesn't clash with another major Open. I worry that many fencers in the South East will not travel far which explains (to me) why the events at the southern most part of Britain appear to be the best attended.
Having said that there are some Opens which are growing - Glasgow and Merseyside.
Certainly if it's well advertised before the event then I think [at least] the Scots would come down for it. Plus you have the fencers in the North East and West who would find it relatively easy to attend. If it were a Coup maybe attendance wouldn't be that great because of the equipment and license restrictions.
I suppose it's a suck it and see sort of thing.

One of things I found perplexing about the Edinburgh Coup is that no one was turning up for the last 2 years that it was on (Epee or Sabre) and now it's gone people keep asking if we will reinstate it.

    Cheers

    Gav
