Thanks to all those who came along, especially those who refereed.
Jon, what scoring system to you use for the teams event, we came several years ago but I can't remember, just remember it was very efficiently done.
The reason I ask is that we ran a regional team event using the swiss system, which was not well received by either coaches or parents, we need an alternative for next year and any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Could you PM me with details please. It may be the same thing not sure.
Your inbox is full, so details here:
Italian relay is the format of team matches used in the Olympics. Universities also use it for the BUCS leagues and the London Team Trophy (one of the more successful team competitions in the UK) does it as well.
Teams consist of three fencers plus one reserve (usaually optional). Each fencer plays each fencer from the other team and the score is cumulative. Each bout lasts for three minutes or up until the NEXT lot of five hits.
Here is an example of how the scoring works in practice, GB's team match against Italy in the MTF at London: http://www.london2012.com/fencing/ev...301/index.html
(Ignore the durations shown - they obviously relate to total duration including discussion of video replay and what-not. Each bout has max 3mins fencing time, as I said.)
The only other format I can think of is the 'aggregate of bouts' type system that the Excalibur uses (which I don't like).
Hope that helps!

Reason: more info
June, we use team relay to 45 hits (the Italian system I believe).
I plan on 3 teams per piste and no cut but it doesn't always work out that way.
The intention is to give as many as possible lots of fencing.
Thanks Jon and Miraberis, this is what I thought, will let our comps committee know, the system that they used was similar to that used at Euro Cadet Champs last year and frankly didn't work. Much prefer this and will use it next time.
