Reading this post ( johnL is correct, and k.smith indicates we could have fielded 26 ! ) it seems to me that perhaps someone in head office; Saw it was twenty, limited it to our top twenty ranked, and didn't think about the composition of the ws group and their exams.

There is at least one fencer that has entered and is not in the top 20 of the rankings though. Perhaps, most people who weren't in the top 20 didn't know they could ask the be entered? There was a lack of communication between BF and the women sabreurs since I remember when they used to email all the fencers but this year I know those that I have spoken to didn't recieve an email. And most of the young fencers who may have done it and din't have exams possibly just didn't know much about the event since they don't keep up to date with the senior circuit?

They're all in the top 20 of the December senior rankings, as was the requirement.

Can someone who is going give me an idea of total cost, official hotel is pretty expensive at £135/night when you need at least 2 nights and 3 if you want to watch the team event?

Whilst I don't want to add fuel to the fire I will clarify the point that as someone just outside the top 20 in December (22), and 20th as of Jan 1st I asked if it would be possible to attend if the 20 places were not filled for experience and to improve my fencing. However, this was declined by the PD in kind, polite and prompt response. The new selection criteria leaves it to the performance teams discretion to fill places and that is their choice. I do think it's a shame that the places were not at least filled by Juniors/Cadets even if I wasn't deemed a good enough candidate.

I didn't realise it was off the December rankings not January and that doesn't seem fair. It isn't as if the senior rankings are so widespread and there were only roughly 177 points between yourself and 20th place. The rankings don't really accurately show who are the best fencers since the points are so close in many cases.

That was the date announced by the selection committee, they need to have a cut off date, so I don't think it is unfair that, that was the line taken. Just a shame the spots weren't filled.
