Leon Paul Junior Series Event - Finchley Foil 17th March 2013
Finchley Foil is in the process of trying to fill the gap left by the cancelled Eton event by arranging an individual LPJS foil event for the following age groups:
U9 Girls and Boys
U11 Girls and Boys
U13 Girls and Boys
Unfortunately, due to the very limited availability of local sports halls and the time restraints placed on their use, we have been restricted to a Sunday - leading to the loss of the U15 category. Although it was a hard decision to make, we felt that as it was our first attempt at trying to arrange an event such as this, it was better to walk before we could run!
That said, if this event proves to be a success, we will try and arrange a further event later in the year that will feature the U15's. We are currently in the process of going through the formalities with Leon Paul and once they are concluded we will upload the details onto our website.
Entries are rolling in much faster than we anticipated. To make more room for the U11 boys and U13 boys we are rejigging the timetable. We have not finalised it yet but the only category to change dramatically will be U9 boys which moves to a check in time of 12 noon. We will confirm the final check in times for all events nearer the date.
If you are entering by post rather than e-mail can you please make sure my name - Hazel Herbert - is on the envelope. The postman get confused by Finchley Foil or LPJS!
We now have only 2 places left in U13 boys and U13 girls. U11 boys is also filling fast but we still have room for more U11 girls and U9s. If you have e-mailed me details you are in and I will acknowledge hard copy entries as soon as I get them. I will be operating a waiting list once we are completely full so if it looks as if you cannot make it after all please let me know.

An update on entries to the competition. We have managed to reschedule the day and can now fit in another under 13 poule. I have written to the top 6 on the waiting list. We can take 1 or 2 under 9s but everything else is now full and has a waiting list. If you are not now able to make it please let me know so that I can offer the place to someone else. I would like to say a very big thank you to the organisers for a very well run and enjoyable competition. There was a lovely atmosphere.
We were really impressed with the well planned event - from friendly and informative email communication pre-event to well referred bouts and even the kind gesture of amazon gift vouchers for the winners and sweets for all the U9 entrants. Having labels on all the officials was also a good idea.
There was a good balance between treating the competition seriously and yet giving the younger one's explanations based on their age. The organisers certainly understood 7,8 and 9 year olds! It was most helpful that the organiser explained the rules at the beginning for the U9 entrants and parents including what would be yellow carded and what wouldn't be (e.g. faulty equipment as at this age they weren't holding the children responsible). Especially as for some children it was their very first competition and their parents were all new to it too.
I echo these sentiments. Very well organised event with approx times posted on the notice board, emails beforehand, results posted here unbelievably quickly, and large entries in most age groups. Thank you.
