    I always like to be positive so;

    Good points
    3 in the L64 with 2 fencing really well in the pools (Davies and Cooke undefeated) to go direct into the 64.

    Mepstead (WR 236) beating Samandi (WR 50) plus he also took out Foconi (WR 24) in the pools. Also,losing to Choupenitch (2 times world Junior Champion and WR 45) 15-12 is no disgrace. Should see his WR improve and help his pool seeding in the next tournament.

    For tomorrow:

    Kruse v Yunes – RK should be OK and I hope he makes at least a L16 (If not wins the tournament)

    Davis v Choupenitch – Good tough match up. If he gets through, probably gets Massialas.

    Cooke v Sanita – Sanita has a low ranking (WR 406) but seems to be fencing well in both the pools and DE. USA after that.

    Alex's black card is bad news. It carries a 2 month FIE ban and that would cover the period of the Junior European Championships.

    JohnL, I don't want to stop you from being positive but do you mean Mepstead's WR will improve? As he didn't make the L64 he will score 0 ranking points and so his WR will not be affected regardless of who he beat in the poule and L128. He came 91st last year so will not lose anything from this. Choupetnich made the L32 last year.

    Could be me being over optimistic.

    I still see it as a positive performance though

    I would have thought you would feel that the target results for 'funded' athletes (TASS) would be higher considering many of your past posts, especially for fencers with a few years of senior WC experience....
