A fencing training camp aimed at strong epee fencers. The format of the camp will be similar to those held by the German National Squad, which Jon regularly attended in Tauberbischofsheim, and reflects their elite training system and its intensive approach. We hope it will be challenging but rewarding and enjoyable for everyone who attends. Places are strictly limited to 36 fencers.
Arriving the night of Monday 1st April, you will have three full days of quality training, split into two daily sessions with plenty of time for lunch in between. Fencers can leave after training on Thursday evening or stay for the last night party and depart following breakfast Friday morning
Full board accommodation is being provided at Wick Court (GL2 7JJ). This handsome, moated Tudor Manor House is situated at the end of a mile long lane, tucked into a bend of the River Severn and surrounded by 140 acres of stunning English countryside. All meals are provided and fencers are welcome to bring any extra food they wish. The house has a large fully fitted kitchen we are free to use.
Wick Court also comes with a schoolroom on the second floor complete with study desks. This room will be made available at lunch and in the evening so fencers with academic work or exam revision can work in a quiet atmosphere (which will be strictly enforced!)
The coaching staff will provide one individual lesson per fencer during the camp and there will be a physio and welfare officer in attendance at all times. The activities are fencing based rather than fitness based with the sessions built around sparing and tactics with a daily footwork session.
An executive coach will provide transport for the group from Wick Court to the training venue twice a day, so private transport will be unnecessary once at the camp.
The camp has a capacity for 36 fencers split evenly, 18 male and 18 female epeeists. A staff of three coaches along with Jon Willis, physio Andy Byrne (a veteran of two Haverstock Training Camps) and a welfare officer (TBC) will deliver the camp for £275 per fencer.
