    Default BVF - Point Control: What's the Point?

    Hello all,

    My shiny new BVF membership card arrived today. Thank you.

    As a novice fencer I have been somewhat alarmed at the negative vibes which appear to consume the Fencing Forum and all levels of participation in general. Most of the negativity appears to be generated around the issues of selection and administration. For a newcomer it is a real eye-opener to be confronted with a wall of noise such as this.

    I have three questions or points of clarification:

    1) The (general and veteran) forums themselves have a relatively low traffic flow. Is it the case that a vocal minority - with issues, valid or otherwise - present a face of British fencing which is unrepresentative of the fencing world?

    2) Regarding BVF in particular, I'm a little confused as to what it's all about. Taking an issue in my introduction, for example: selection for BVF international competition appears to have a similar problem, yet that selection process isn't listed as an aim of the BVF; it's a responsibility to keep BF informed of polices/changes to 'the process of selection of Association teams and individuals to represent Great Britain'. Is this not different to the stated aim 'to arrange, organise and select members for any GB Veterans matches'?

    3) As an extension of 2), I have been reading BVF newsletters but I can't find (could be my veteran brain!) details of plans BVF has relating to some other stated aims, namely

    a) to publicise and promote fencing within the Veteran age groups;
    c) to encourage and support other competitions to include veteran events;
    d) [what to do with funds received]
    g) to undertake such other duties as British Fencing may request. [what do they ask for?]

    Sorry length of the post, but this represents where I am alongside my fledgling fencing and S&C training and development.

    Best,
    Simon

    Just a thought.

    Last weekend was a very busy weekend for the administative team of the Vets with the Winton Cup.

    You want an answer why don't you correspond with them directly? They are all volunteers with busy lives I am sure.
    The longer I do it the harder it gets.
