You must mean Corned Beef Hash? Definitely still on the menu in Northern England in our house at least. But with peas cos we're posh.

In actual fact spam fritters are a UK wide "cuisine". They originated in the poor diet of WWII.
It is NOT just a Scottish thing.

Corned Beef Hash is commonly associated with America. It's thought to have been introduced to the UK during WWII as part of our poor diet over the course of the war .
North of the border we make Stovies. It's a different thing.

Unbeatable. That was our mid-week treat along with a big glass of Dendelion & Burdock - truly fantastic. I couldn't even imagine eating it now, but back then it was a meal fit for a king.
Pity shops stopped selling Dandelion and Burdock.

That was such a part of our childhood, yet to this day I don't know anyone who actually knows what burdock is, except that it tastes great with.. er.. dandelion.
Curiosity got the better of me in the end and I had to look it up. Apparently, it's an underground tuber of the greater burdock plant that's used as a vegetable and medicinal herb.
