    U23s are not mentioned in the FIE rules because they are not FIE-run competitions. Like the Cadet Circuit, they are organised under the auspices of the European Fencing Confederation. Name and country code are required; most entrants fence with their national colours too.

    For anyone who hasn't seen the new patches 'in action', here's James Davis wearing them. Gives a better sense of their scale ... I like his glove

    Will still look better with it being painted/sprayed on.

    Sure someone will come up with the option..

    Soon I hope ..... Seriously underwhelmed, and you were right about the ridge in terms of Epee. Good call by JW that folk shouldn't wear them until absolutely needed .....

    It will be available soon.
    There is new stencil technology which is a huge improvement on previous which we are using at the worlds just now.

    The glove is awesome, is it a left over from the Olympics, still not a fan of the patch.

    I like the design, but I am not a fan of patches for national colours.

    Printing tends to fade and I would rather see embroidery on the kit.

    I have a local embroiderer and I am going to talk to them when I have a sample.

    I suppose a patch is an easy "retro fit" until a better solution is found.

    And it you look at other countries, it is certainly not just their fencers who have been to FIE events who wear national colours.

    Surely the density of stitching for embroidery would affect the protective qualities of the fabric? All that punching through the fabric must affect it. Also it'd take an age to complete.

    Stencils would work though, although you do have the fading, but I doubt that'd be much of an issue, surely you have a good stencil you could respray it.

    Prefer old stripes . Patch looks amateur especially as its thick to sew on and will always look like a sewn on patch. At International events the stripes were easy to spot across a crowded fencing hall as they were so different. These patches will not stand out .
    I like the design for the web site and other BF things, modern and edgy but on kit as a sew on patch, doesn't work.

    As it's the design that's been approved by the FIE and not the patch, could another company bring out an alternative solution using the approved design or can only LP supply these things?

    Is joe public going to have access to this new stencilling product in time for the new season Paul?
    If so I think we'll skip the patch and wait.

    With stencils coming it's a pity that the design got changed from the original, presumably to allow it to fit onto a patch. Which design got approved I wonder, the original or the adjustment, or do both comply. Maybe those with the stencils could revert to the original if both are valid. Now that would be good.

    I'm going to agree with Jon here. I don't want our sport to be exclusive, but if we are serious about improving then we need to reward talent and progress. When I was competing (no elite fencer but I did compete abroad on occasion) I was happy with the GBR on my back and, because I hadn't been selected for anything by anyone, no stripes.
    However, as a coach I know the kids love badges, and it is nice if you're abroad to feel like you're representing the nation in some way.
    So - I think the patch looks fine, a nice patch - but the stencilled uniform as worn by the chaps at the worlds looks awesome. Definitely up there with the best colours. SO why not keep the (currently unavailable) stencil kit for the FIE reps, to give them something to be proud of (quite rightly) and the rest something to aim for. And the patch should be freely available and policed by the current unspoken "stripes" standard (above which you can because you're worth it, below which you can't because you'd look like a knob). Just my opinion.

    Going back to the appearance of the patches though – didn’t exactly stand out at the world championships. The most they stood out was comparing the bright white backgrounds against the slightly off white fencing kit… at least our masks looked nice.

    I agree I couldn't make out the patch at all it seems to be too small and indistinctive

    Default Where in the rules?

    Please can I have some help?

    Can someone point me to the rule that says you need your national strip for Junior World Cup events. I was sure you did but someone has just pointed out to me the following....

    T45.4 Rules state:

    a) Name and nationality, in accordance with the rules, on the back of the jacket. Application: all official FIE competitions, at all stages of the competitions.

    b) Wearing his national uniform and logo (cf. m.25.3).
    Application as follows:
    1. Senior, Junior and Cadet World Championships, all bouts, whether in a pool, in the direct elimination or during a team match;
    2. Individual: Senior World Cup competitions and Senior Zonal Championships, all bouts, whether in a pool or in the direct elimination;
    3. Teams: Senior World Cup competitions and Senior Zonal Championships, all bouts in every match.

    This would seem to suggest that Junior World Cups do not need the patch.
