I am pleased to announce the coaching line up and full details of our first ever ALL age training session. It will be held on Sunday 11th March 11am to 5pm. The venue will be Stevenage Arts and Leisure Centre, Lytton Way, Stevenage, SG1 1LZ.

U18's Coaching Team

Dominique Szokolovics - Foil. Dominique has competed at five World Championships, and by age 14 she simultaneously held the Cadet, Junior and Senior Women’s Championship Titles – a still unequalled feat in the sport. She has also fenced at European and Commonwealth Championships and became the top-ranked woman foilist in the UK before retiring through injury. She became National Women’s Foil Champion again in 2014. Dominique is Head Coach at Fencers Club.She is dedicated both to educating and nurturing fencers so as to maximise their potential as well as their enjoyment of the sport.

Pawel Osmanski - Foil. Pawel has been ranked 7th in the world, is eight times Polish National Champion plus a Junior World Cup and Junior European Champion. He is a published author and practitioner in fencing-specific sports injuries, and an expert in Functional Movement Screening. His has gained both a Bachelor and a Masters degree in Physical Education with a Major in Fencing, from the University of Gdansk. He is currently performance coach at FCL.

David Keszler - Epee. Dávid studied for 4 years to become a fencing coach at the prestigious Semmelweis University.David was 7 times Hungarian Champion at various age groups (individual & team) and was part of the Hungarian national squad at under 17 and under 20 levels. As part of the Hungarian team, he finished 4th at the European Championships and 6th at the World Championships. He is currently at coach at Leon Paul (Epee) Club, Brentwood School and has his own club.

Paul Davis - Sabre. Paul Davis Fencing Academy is a multi award winning club including; Team of the Year, Coaches of the Year (Male and Female), Disability Coach of the Year, Volunteer of the Year U21, and Elite Athlete of the Year. Paul himself has competed at County, National and International level. Paul has a wealth of experience as a youth coach.

Senior/Veteran Coaching Team


Pierre Harper - Foil. Pierre Represented GB at several junior and senior internationals and World Championships. Pierre also took six National Senior Foil Titles, was Commonwealth gold medallist three times and competed in the individual and team foil events at the 1980 Moscow, 1984 Los Angeles and 1988 Seoul Summer Olympics. His most recent success was coaching Paul Wedge to Gold in the Men’s Foil Individual at the last World Veteran Championships as well as Gold and Silver in the Men’s Foil Individual with Paul Wedge and Tony Bartlett, at the last European Veteran Championships. Pierre was recently awarded a British Fencing Silver award for his outstanding work in coaching. He will be celebrating 30 years of coaching in 2018.

Professor Bob Bales - Sabre. Bob is a three weapon Master who has nearly 40 years coaching experience actively teaching and training fencers at all weapons and levels. During his career he has been a GB National coach, heavily involved in establishing National Coaching awards to the highest levels, and runs development programs and pathway initiatives for international fencers. He has regularly staffed residential courses, for performers and trainee coaches alike. He has coached over 50 National champions involving all ages and weapons. His fencers have won Commonwealth titles and been in major international finals. Bob is our regional Coach Educator.

Gabor Hadalin - Epee. Gabor stopped competing in 1986, and became a young assistant coach. After graduating from Semmelweis University, Institute of Coaching and Sport Education, he became a full-time coach. Gabor arrived in the UK in 2008, and has since trained many young fencers who have achieved good results in national and international competitions.Gabor has worked with numerous international fencers, and also children, wheelchair fencers and veterans. Gabor is a Level 5 Coach in all three weapons with the British Fencing Association.
