    Default Sore finger!

I've changed recently from posting on a french grip to holding more of the grip in my hand with my index finger resting along the side and thumb on top as before.

However when there's a clash of guards which seems to be very often, the tip of my finger is hitting the inside of the guard and it's bloody painful!

What do people do about this? Move the hand back a bit? Put a thicker pad inside the guard? Use a weird thimble type thing? Man up? (not really an option for a big softie like me).

You have it . Part of the world of using French grip in that way.

Based on the advice I'm going to go with:

Move my hand back a bit although I do have long fingers which limits this option as I'll end up posting again.

Also I can't resist the idea of making a leather thimble with impact absorbing foam stuffed inside because it sounds like fun. Although I may risk looking like a giant albino Aye-aye.

Distance I'm working on. (20 year WIP).

And I can't go back to posting MK Cap, sorry, as I'm sold on the benefits of more grip in hand for firmer parries and quicker flicks down to foot.

    Just another opinion.

I figured out the problem at training on Wednesday.

I have two epees both with Harut Mustang grips only one has a rubber covered pommel and the other a bare metal pommel. The bare metal one slips through my hand on a clash of guards (there's one big guy who always counters right into my attack) leading to the painful finger impact and the rubber one doesn't.

The bare metal one is too heavy as well at 200g so it needs to go.

The moral of the story. Using a rubber prevents unwanted accidents.

That is So punful. BTW, did you know that you can get finger condoms? If your hand is slipping too much perhaps one or two of those might help? Large size to fit over the glove.

I don't think they sell finger condoms in our local Chemists so this will involve me asking the lady* behind the counter for two extra small regular type condoms. As one time winner of the North West Regional Championships this is going to ruin my hard won reputation as Cock Of The North.
