It may seem a bit early, but after this summer, there is only one more World Championships before Tokyo.
As 8 teams qualify per weapon now (Top 4 in world plus one per zone), there are only 10 individual places per weapon left.
Of those 10, only 3 will go to Europe.
2 come from an adjusted world ranking taking out all the nations that have teams qualified already.
1 comes from a European zonal qualifier for countries that have no team qualified in that weapon and also have no fencers in that weapon in the Adjusted World ranking who have qualified.
I think individual qualification is going to be very tough, although once you take the 8 nations out after the team events, you may need to go quite a way down the rankings in some weapons to qualify.
We don't know yet. Selection will be after the zonal championships in 2020.
All depends which teams qualify really. In MS for example, Korea, Italy, Hungary, Germany have been right up there in the last few. USA is so strong in the Pan-American zone that they're almost certain to qualify, though Mexico might be stronger in WS by then.
Russia and France have a great chance for the european place if they're outside top 4 and I can't see anyone beating Iran for the Asian zonal place (assumng Korea are top4 already). Egypt or Tunisia in Africa probably.
So maybe:
Korea
Italy
Hungary
Germany
Russia/France
USA
Egypt/Tunisia
Iran
With the additional funding granted to BFA from UKS in the Aspiration Funding and presumably to MST and MFT fencers, the at least some of the financial headaches will have disappeared for the period up to Tokyo.
Good luck to those in receipt of the funding and good luck in qualifying for Tokyo.
