EASTERN REGION DEVELOPMENT REFEREEING COURSE (open to all regions)
As part of the Eastern Region Big Weekend.
Level 2 Foil, Epee and Sabre Refereeing Course
Theory & written exams up to level 2 for all 3 weapons
Practical assessments up to level 2 all 3 weapons
12th (theory) and 13th (Practical assessment) May 2018
Held at the Stevenage Arts & Leisure Centre.

Course Details
Registration Fee: £25.00 per person (Minimum ONE year’s fencing experience required).
Book Early as there are limited spaces available on the course.

On Saturday - 9.00 am until 4.30 pm - Refereeing theory covering all 3 weapons up to level 2.
The course is aimed at fencers interested in becoming a referee or those who would like to improve their ability when self refereeing at competitions. It is also useful to all fencers that just want to gain a greater understanding of the rules (Saturday only)
• The presentation takes you from when you arrive at competition, what you need to know, what to do at the piste side, weapon checks, refereeing the bout, rules, offences, penalties to completing pool/score sheets correctly. You will receive a full copy of the presentation excluding DVD & video clips.
• The theory day will include DVD on refereeing plus video of fencing actions from various “A” grade events
• The written examination will take place from 3.30pm- 4.30pm on the Saturday, so if you wish to not be examined you will finish at 3.30pm
• While there is a catering/coffee shop on site, it would be advisable to bring your own packed lunch & drinks.

On Sunday - 8.30 am. Practical assessments/exam for those who passed their written exam at Level 1 or 2. Assessments up to level 2 foil & epee, level 1 sabre - Times to be confirmed based on chosen weapon/s, overall event starts at 9am.
Practical assessments for those who passed their written examination. These will take place using bouts in the Eastern Region Senior Championships. While you are able to fence and be examined in the same event it is recommended that you do not fence, to allow you to focus on examinations.

PLEASE NOTE
- You must be a member of the BF and have a minimum ONE year's fencing experience plus some actual refereeing experience at club or competitions recommended. No minimum age for theory day but for the practical assessment it would be 13yrs as of 1st Jan 2018 because it is an adult event.
- No need to bring fencing kit on Saturday, just bring a pen and paper with you.
- Pre-course reading will be e mailed to you which you should read before the theory course day.
