JW and the team have everything running smoothly, as is the norm for BYCs nowadays.

All three days ran so smoothly.

Respect to Jon, Mavis and the whole DT team, referees, floor walkers, random Owens and Armourers (and anyone missed)..

A massive achievement and to go through so well is really impressive.

Well done and thanks to all involved in this event..

Such an improvement from some experiences from the 'bad old days'.

I would like to echo the comments above. For us just Saturday which went so smoothly. Thanks for a great event.

I was so caught up in the heat of the L8 that I completely forgot to go back to the armourers to pay for my sonís weapon repair so if anyone knows the gentleman on the front table with glasses (we joked about needing glasses to see the screws) please let me know so I can find a way to get the money to him. I donít want him to think I ran off deliberately 😊 thanks.

Default Not the heroes we deserve

    Hi all,

Not that many of them read the forum, I just thought it was important to acknowledge those referees who gave up all or part of their beautifully sunny bank holiday weekend to help this event run smoothly. An event like the BYCs needs a huge number of referees so that we don't have competitions waiting around for referees to become available. Not only were there a lot of the 'old reliables', it was great to work with some new faces who stepped up and heeded the call when it looked like we might be running short on refs. I hope they had a great experience and will be back to ref these events again in the future.

Running these events is a team game - DT, referees, coaches, parents and fencers all need to work together for it to run well. Up in DT we can do our best to reduce turn around times; refs can reduce delays by being where we need them to be; and coaches and parents can help by acknowledging the sacrifices of our volunteers and giving them a well-deserved thanks at the end of the day. Acknowledging that this event is important for developing our fencers and our refs is crucial to create an inclusive and supportive environment. It's not an easy weekend, but it can be a fun one - so thanks to everyone for their good humour, energy and enthusiasm which helps the weekend to pass by much more quickly!

I suspect the Liverpool uni top might belong to Emily Jeanes. I didnít see any other Liverpool uni ladies there, but I was only there Sunday and Monday.
