Class warm ups
The new Hungarian coaching syllabus places an emphasis on getting classes warmed up using "a variety of competitive and tactical games".
For youngsters I use a variety of tag games, including chain tag which should get the people tagging working together. I also use masketball (netball rules, using a glove as ball and a mask as net. The mask is held by a player who can move about) and the "Mask Game". Anybody using anything else? |

Tennisball soccer (football on your side of the pond)
Glove Tag Proletariat Ball (aka P-Ball) Glove Tag: Each person has a glove which they stick into their wasitband at their back. People run around trying to get each others glove. If you get someone's glove you toss it back to them and they need to do xxx (usually 10 jumping jacks, although lots of other possibilities here for a penalty) before they put their glove back in and are back in the game. Lots of running around, feints, awareness of surroundings, etc. P-Ball: One person starts with a soft ball (tennisball sized) and begins the revolution. Everyone else is the aristocracy. If you get hit by the thrown ball on the fly (ie before it has hit a wall or the floor, but including if it deflects off of another person) you join the revolution and are a prole. When the game starts and there is only one prole s/he is allowed to run with the ball. If there are 2+ proles then they can move without the ball but cannot move their feet while holding the ball. Game continues until all of the aristocrats have been turned into proles, next game begins with the final aristocrat starting as the initial prole. Again invovles lots of running around, builds teamwork and strategic/tactical decision making (should I try pegging the person from this moderately long distance or shouldwe try corralling them into a corner through the use of many short passes, should I aim high/low, etc.). Another variant, if you have a large space and large numbers, is to introduce a second ball. This can be especially amusing if it occurs midway through a game. :) -B :)

They're teaching those games on the club leader courses too. They're great fun especially if you're training kids/uni students!

Understand from Alan Skipp that the BFA plan to issue a booklet of games. Not sure when -
